Сложные члены это неделимые сочетания существительного (местоимения) с неличными формами глагола (инфинитивом, причастием или герундием).

1. Сложное подлежащее (The Complex Subject)

The steamer is expected to arrive to-morrow.
Пароход, как ожидают, прибудет завтра.
(инфинитивный оборот)

The steamer ... to arrive - подлежащее.
Дословно: Пароход прибывающий(подлежащее) ожидается(сказуемое) завтра(обстоятельство); или: Прибывающий пароход ожидается завтра.

2. Сложная именная часть сказуемого (The Complex predicative)

The inconvenience was my not knowing the language.
Неудобство состояло в том, что я не знал языка.
(герундиальный оборот)

Сложное дополнение (The Complex Object)

I saw her crossing the street.
